Deluxe Ski Jump 4 (DSJ4) is our second post for a ski jumping game, as promised in the last one. This one is less complex than Ski Jump Mania 3 because it does not include mini-games, particular tasks, or careers. It is simply about jumping. In the free version, you are restricted to 3 hills: Lathi, Lillehammer, and Oberstdorf. All your movements are simulated accurately according to real-world physics.
The advantage of Deluxe Ski Jump 4 is that you do not require an internet connection. And with just 16 MByte, the download is small.
Jumping a reasonable distance is as tricky as in Ski Jump Mania 3. The graphics are excellent, and it is fun to play this game. If you like a more complex game in terms of additional tasks to perform, Ski Jump Mania 3 might be more enjoyable. However, I want to concentrate on just jumping, so Deluxe Ski Jump 4 is the better choice.
Controls
When it comes to the game controls, and you already played Ski Jump Mania 3, you don’t have to learn anything new. The controls are the same:
- With a click on the left mouse button, you start sliding down the hill.
- At the end of the hill, you click on the left and the right mouse buttons simultaneously to jump. Release the buttons after take off.
- To get the jumper in the optimal position, move the mouse button slightly down and then keep him stable by moving the mouse very slightly up and down.
- For the landing, you need to press the left and the right mouse buttons again simultaneously. A slight delay between the clicks of the two buttons makes the telemark landing wider.
The difficulty in Deluxe Ski Jump 4 is that there is no indicator for the best point of take-off or the best flying position. In Ski Jump Mania 3, you have these to try to hit the optimal point. In DSJ4, you need some experience or gut-feeling. Nevertheless, the game is still a lot of fun to play.
