The iTop Screen Recorder is a free and tiny tool to record your screen. The good part is that it is easy to use. The negative aspect is that it is now exactly like many other tools of this kind. You get the basic functionality, but you have to upgrade to the paid Pro version for everything else. Unfortunately, this also includes a watermark. I liked the old free version (called iFun instead of iTop) of this tool because it was possible to record videos without watermarks. Now I will have to look for a replacement.
Is it still useful?
If you don’t mind the watermark, then this tool is still useful. There are cases where I don’t care about the watermark. For example, if you work from home, you might have to attend many meetings. It can be challenging to follow a conversation, a slide show, or a video presentation and, at the same time, write down notes. Instead, you can record the meeting, and while the iTop Screen Recorder is doing its job, you can focus on the discussion. And once the session is over, you can go through the recording to take your notes.
In the same way, you can record news channels or any other streaming content. And you can not only record those video streams, but you can include or exclude speakers, microphones, and webcam. This gives you many options. You could record only the video or only the video and its audio track. Or you can record the video and audio together, plus your comments (through the microphone). In addition, you can record the full screen, a region of the screen, or a specific window.
What’s bad with iTop Screen Recorder?
As long as you only need those recordings for yourself, everything is fine. But many people create videos to upload them to websites. This could be a personal website, but it could also be YouTube or similar online video sharing or social media platforms. Imagine you would like to post an online course on YouTube. This is about you presenting something important to your audience. You don’t want to promote the iTop Screen Recorder.
