This first free-to-play episode of Life Is Strange is an adventure game about the life of Maxine Caulfield. She is a student at the Blackwell Academy in Arcadia Bay. The game starts with Maxine waking up in a storm. Looking around, she sees a lighthouse. When she arrives at the lighthouse, she looks at a massive tornado ripping through Arcadia Bay. The tornado picks up a boat and slams it into the lighthouse. But as the lighthouse collapses on Maxine, she suddenly wakes up and finds herself in art class. It seems it was just a dream.
Where life gets strange
After talking to Kate Marsh and her teacher, she heads to the bathroom for some privacy. She takes a picture of a blue butterfly, and then something strange happens. She overhears an argument between Nathan Prescott and a blue-haired girl. The argument amounts to a fight, where the girl accidentally gets shot by Nathan. Maxine tries to stop him and reaches out. But like in her dream, she is suddenly back in class. She accidentally breaks her camera, and by reaching out to it with her arm, she discovers that she can reverse time.
From here, Maxine sets out to save the blue-haired girl, reunite with her old best friend, and solve the mystery about the disappearance of Rachel Amber.
