Mozilla Firefox is not simply an alternative to Microsoft’s Edge, the browser which was tightly integrated into Windows 10. Yes, you read correctly. Edge “was” integrated, but the new version will no longer be an integrated part of Windows. And it is now based on Chromium, a browser technology from Google. However, using Edge means using a browser with the same origin as the Windows OS, which is known for collecting data from its users even if they disapprove of it. Fortunately, you can just use a different browser instead so that Microsoft can not track your browsing habits. There are many browsers, but Mozilla Firefox is the most commonly used browser that is open source and not controlled by a big corporation.
A cool new feature is Firefox Send. With Firefox Send, you can share large files with end-to-end encryption using a link that expires automatically. With a Firefox Account, you can send files of up to 2.5GB. Should you not have an account, you can still send up to 1GB. Click here to share your files.
More details
Fast and safe browsing is something that everyone likes and Mozilla Firefox does deliver on these points. And in case you need more functionality Mozilla Firefox and its community provide add-ons for almost every need. Another feature is that you can create an account and sync your bookmarks, settings, and tabs across all your devices.
Safety
You probably agree that a browser should have sufficient options to protect your privacy and that it should not simply rely on the installed Anti-Virus Software. Mozilla Firefox provides several levels of protection. It can block the invisible content of websites that try to track your browsing behavior. For trusted websites, you can add exceptions. You can set the strength of protection to Standard, Strict, and Custom. Be aware that, when using Strict protection, some websites might break. When using Custom protection you can choose what you want to block and what not (e.g. Trackers, Cookies, Cryptominers, etc.).
In addition, you can set permission for websites to use your Location, Camera, and Microphone. You can block pop-up windows and receive warnings when websites try to install add-ons. Deceptive content and dangerous software (downloads) can be blocked as well. And there is more, just install Firefox and have a look.
New: The new Firefox Monitor allows you to see if you’ve been part of an online data breach. Click here if you want to check it out now. And the new Facebook Container extension prevents Facebook from tracking you around the web. Click here if you would like to add this extension.
Integrated Password Manager
The integrated password manager is yet another great feature. You don’t have to look up your account credentials every time you need to log into one of your accounts. Mozilla Firefox remembers your credentials (if you let it) and next time you get back to that log-in page Firefox will just fill your saved credentials into the appropriate sign-in form and you are done.
Speed
As mentioned above, Mozilla Firefox is a speedy browser. Especially the latest versions made a big jump forward compared to other browsers. We are not saying that Firefox is the fastest browser available though. According to some websites, Google Chrome is leading when it comes to speed. However, the difference is minimal and you won’t feel it. And with Firefox Quantum, which is still in development, Firefox might have an advantage over its competitors because it supports multi-core processors.
