In “Star Wars – Battle of Yavin,” you will fly your X-Wing fighter into a battle against TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, and the Death Star. The game was last updated in 2004. But despite its age, it is still a lot of fun to play. And even though it is a 3D combat simulation, it does not require a very powerful gaming computer. To control your X-Wing fighter, you need only a mouse or a joystick.
The Story
In a galaxy far away, a group of rebels fights against the Empire, which controls the galaxy and destroys anyone who dares to oppose its rule. The Rebels discovered that a new space station, called the Death Star, was being built to increase the Emperor’s influence over the galaxy. This Death Star can destroy an entire planet.
A Rebel spy has succeeded in stealing the construction plans of the Death Star. With the help of Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and other heroes, these plans were delivered to the Rebel headquarters on the planet Yavin. The plans revealed that the Death Star has just one weakness, a thermal exhaust port. A torpedo fired into this thermal exhaust port would set off a chain reaction that would lead to the destruction of the Death Star.
Star Wars – Battle of Yavin
The game starts with the Rebels approaching the Death Star. As one of the pilots of an X-Wing fighter, you take part in this attack. However, the Death Star is protected by two Star Destroyers and many waves of TIE Fighters. Your first goal is, therefore, to eliminate these Destroyers and TIE Fighters. When all Destroyers and Fighters are gone, you will reach the surface of the Death Star. Now there are still the Radar Domes, Deflector Shields, and Turbolasers to take care of. Once those have been cleared, you can finally make your approach to the thermal exhaust port.
